1. ON-TIME RUNNING

Although TransAdelaide works hard to meet its on-time running targets, the performance of our trains can be affected by a number of factors. Trains may run late or be cancelled because of:

• Train mechanical problems
• Signal, track, level crossing and points problems
• Vandalism
• Passenger or staff illness or injuries
• Passengers unable or who choose not to board or alight quickly

Sometimes our on-time running performance is affected by incidents beyond the control of TransAdelaide, for example, storms, severe heat conditions, police operations, fatalities and bushfires, and TransAdelaide remains focused on improving communications to our customers in these circumstances.

On time running is reported as the percentage of journeys arriving at their destination within 6 minutes of their published timetable time.

On-time running performance for July was 89.3% which is a slight improvement over the previous month, mainly as a result of the removal of some speed restrictions on the Gawler line and the completion of major works around the Oaklands Station site.

Speed restrictions in the Adelaide Yards continue to impact on on-time running performance across the network while we await finalisation of this work. These restrictions are expected to be progressively eased from the end of July through late August.

2. SERVICE RELIABILITY

Service reliability is reported as the percentages of services completing their timetabled journey.

Train Reliability

There were 50 missed trips for July which delivered a service reliability of 99.6% for the month. Missed trips can result from incidents requiring the closure of a line or part thereof or severe service disruptions resulting from other operational issues. In most instances these incidents are beyond the control of TransAdelaide, however when this does occur we endeavour to provide alternative services for customers.
